The 2016 Social Good Summit was held this week in New York to help bring awareness to issues facing our country on an informal platform. The conference was held from September 18-19 and featured various leaders, activists, political figures and celebrities including Joe and Jill Biden. A few celebrities who spoke on a panel to chat about solutions to concerns facing the country were Chelsea Handler, Sophia Bush, Cody Simpson and Demi Lovato.
With innovation being the main method for growth in our society today, much of the focus was on technology. However, they also explored topics like gender equality, poverty, education and the conservation of wildlife.
The panel tackled Black Lives Matter, as well and racial inequality in the nation. A columnist for the NY Daily news, Shaun King, addressed the issue. According to Huffington Post, King stated, “There’s a part of me that’s frustrated every single day because the things that anger us are still happening. It’s like our house is on fire, and we are still talking about fire codes and fire departments.”
